Wondering what your next knitting project should be? Our free knitting pattern to make a stylish asymmetrical jumper is the perfect next make.

This is the ideal knitting project for advanced beginners, who have mastered the basic knitting stitches and are looking to create something something stylish for their wardrobe. This pullover looks perfect worn over jeans with crisp white trainers.

It involves using straight knitting needles, meaning no knowledge of circular needles is required.

To fit chest: 81-86 (91-97, 102-107, 112 -117, 122-127)cm

Actual chest: 107 (116:125:134:144)cm

Full length: 55 (57:59:61:63)cm

Prima DK acrylic yarn in shades:

3.5mm and 4mm pair of knitting needles

6 stitch markers

2 stitch holders

22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.

cm centimetre; cont continue; g gram; k knit; p purl; pm place marker; rem remaining; rep re-peat; RS right side; ssk slip 2 stitches knitwise, knit these 2 stitches together through back loops; single left-leaning decrease; st stitch; st st stocking stitch; tog together; tbl through back loop; WS wrong side; * repeat the instructions following the single asterisk as directed.

Using 3.5mm needles and C, cast on 110 (120:130:140:150) sts.

Knit 3 rows, break off C.

Using 4mm needles and A, beg with a K row, cont in stocking stitch (throughout), to work measures 10cm, ending after a WS row.

Next row (RS): Break off A, using A, cast on 4 sts, k to end, break off A, using A, cast on 4 sts. 118 (128:138: 148:158) sts

Cont until work measures 34cm from cast on edge, ending after a WS row.

Pm either side for armholes.

Cont until work measures 19 (21:23:25:27) cm, ending after a WS row.

Shape shoulders

Cast off 12 (13:14:15:16) sts at the beg of next 2 rows. 94 (102:110:118:126) sts

Cast off 13 (14:15:16:17) sts at the beg of next 2 rows. 68 (74:80:86:92) sts

Cast off 13 (14:15:16:17) sts at the beg of next 2 rows. 42 (46:50:54:58) sts

Slip rem 42 (46:50:54:58) sts onto a holder.

Using 3.5mm needles and C, cast on 66 (73:80:87:94) sts.

Knit 3 rows, break off C.

Using 4mm needles and B, beg with a K row, in stocking stitch (throughout), to work measures 10cm, ending after a WS row.

Next row (RS): K to end, break off A, using A, cast on 4 sts. 70 (77:84:91:98) sts

Cont until work measures 34cm from cast on edge, ending after a WS row.

Pm either side for armholes and front borders.

Cont until work measures 11 (13:15:17:19) cm, ending after a WS row.

Left neck shaping

Next row (RS): Break off A, Slip 22 (26:30:34:38) sts onto a holder, rejoin A, k to end. 48 (51:54:57:60) sts.

Next row (WS): P to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1. 47 (50:53:56:59) sts.

Next row: K1, ssk, k to end. 46 (49:52:55:58) sts.

Next row: P to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1. 45 (48:51:54:57) sts.

Rep last 2 rows once more. 43 (46:49:52:55) sts

Next row: K1, ssk, k to end. 42 (45:48:51:54) sts

Next row: P to end.

Rep last 2 rows 4 times more. 38 (41:44:47:50) sts.

Work 8 rows straight.

Shape shoulders

Next row (RS): 12 (13:14:15:16) sts, K to end. 26 (28:30:32:34) sts

Next row (WS): P to end.

Next row (RS): Cast off 13 (14:15:16:17) sts, K to end. 13 (14:15:16:17) sts

Next row (WS): P to end.

Cast off.

Using 3.5mm needles and C, cast on 44 (47:50:53:56) sts.

Knit 3 rows, break off C.

Using 4mm needles and A, beg with a K row, cont in stocking stitch (throughout), to work measures 10cm, ending after a WS row.

Next row (RS): Break off A, using A,, cast on 4 sts, K to end, 48 (51:54:57:60) sts

Cont until work measures 34cm from cast on edge, ending after a WS row.

Pm either side for armholes and front borders.

Cont until work measures 11 (13:15:17:19) cm, ending after a WS row.

Left neck shaping

Next row (RS): K to end.

Next row (WS): P1, p2tog, p to end. 47 (50:53:56:59) sts

Next row: K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 46 (49:52:55:58) sts

Next row: P1, p2tog, p to end. 45 (48:51:54:57) sts

Rep last 2 rows once more. 43 (46:49:52:55) sts

Next row: K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 42 (45:48:51:54) sts

Next row: P to end.

Rep last 2 rows 4 times more. 38 (41:44:47:50) sts

Work 9 rows straight.

Shape shoulders

Next row (WS): Cast off 12 (13:14:15:16) sts P to end. 26 (28:30:32:34) sts

Next row (WS): K to end.

Next row (RS): Cast off 13 (14:15:16:17) sts, P to end. 13 (14:15:16:17) sts

Next row (WS): K to end.

Cast off.

Join both shoulder seams.

Using 3.5mm needles and C, knit across 22(26:30:34:38) sts on Left front, pick up and knit 29 sts evenly up left neck, knit across 42(46:50:54:58) sts at back, pick up and knit 29 sts evenly down right neck. 122(130:138:146:154) sts.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (RS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

These 2 rows set rib.

Cont in rib until neck measures 9cm.

Change to 4mm needles, cont in rib until neck measures 18cm.

Cast off in rib.

With RS facing, using 3.5mm needles and C, Pick up and knit 38 sts evenly along collar, pick up and knit 28 (28:36:36:40) sts evenly down to marker, pick up and knit 72 sts evenly down to cast on edge. 138 (138:146:146:154) sts.

Knit 2 rows.

Cast off knit wise.

With RS facing, using 3.5mm needles and C, pick up and knit 72 sts evenly up to marker, pick up and knit 28 (28:36:36:40) sts, evenly up to neck, pick up and knit 38 sts evenly along collar. 138 (138:146:146:154) sts.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (RS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more. Rep row 1 once more.

Row 6 (RS): Rib 3 k2tog, cast on 2 sts, ssk, [rib 12 (12:13:13:14), k2tog, cast on 2 sts, ssk] 8 times, rib 3.

Work a further 5 rows in rib beginning with row 1.

Cast off in rib.

With RS facing, Using 3.5mm needles and C, beginning at armhole marker, pick up and knit 44 (47:51:55:59) sts up to shoulder seam, pick up and knit 44 (47:51:55:59) sts evenly down to marker. 88 (96:102:110:118) sts.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (RS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more. Rep row 1 once more.

Cast off in rib.

With RS facing, Using 3.5mm needles and C, pick up and knit 22 sts along split edge.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (RS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more. Rep row 1 once more.

Cast off in rib.

Join side edge of split edging to 4 cast on sts at all sides. Join side seams from split to arm-hole bands, join armband seams. Sew on buttons.
